A square footage calculator computes the area of a space in square feet. It is essential for home improvement projects, real estate listings, flooring installation, painting estimates, land measurement, and rental pricing. The calculator supports multiple shapes: rectangular rooms (length x width), circular areas (pi x radius squared), triangular areas (1/2 x base x height), and irregular shapes by breaking them into smaller rectangles.
For a rectangle: Area = Length x Width. For a circle: Area = pi x r squared. For a triangle: Area = 0.5 x Base x Height. For L-shaped rooms: divide into two rectangles, calculate each area, and add them together. Measurements can be in feet, inches, or meters and the calculator converts to square feet automatically.
Select the shape of the area you want to measure, enter the dimensions, and click Calculate. The result shows the area in square feet, square meters, square yards, and acres. You can add multiple areas together for total square footage.
Break the room into smaller rectangles or triangles, calculate each area separately, and add them together. An L-shaped room becomes two rectangles.
A 12x12 room is 144 square feet (12 x 12 = 144). This is equivalent to about 13.38 square meters.
Divide square feet by 43,560. One acre = 43,560 square feet. So 10,000 sq ft = 0.2296 acres.
